1997 Ford Explorer Sport
as you can see from the title, i have a 1997 sport, and i have a suspension conundrum. i have so far done the shackles and nothing else. so far i can fit 32s with no rubbing, and i use it for driving up at silver lake. so i went out and bought some leaf springs, four to be exact, but i know that uif i lift the rear anymore i have to crank the torsionbars up, i know that i can prolly get 1.75" but i will prolly look very uneven. because my rear is already higher than the front, and if i get 3" out of the leafsprings then its really going to look uneven. any suggestions would be helpful

Is it a four leaf pack? What vehicle is it from? Also, what is your current setup? I'm assuming the x is 4wd as well.

When I did mine, I replaced my sagging monoleafs with 4 door leaf packs which brought it back to stock height. I then did shackles and add-a-leafs for 2" in the rear and did the tt for 1.5" in the front end. I need to get longer bolts for the front, which you may have to do as well.

Basically it all depends on a lot of variable, including your old leafs, new leafs, what brand of shackles, what torsion bars you have... What are the measurements from the ground to your fenders right now?

do a search for 'sloped body lift' member BT93 did a 3" sloped body lift and 3" rear lift leaf springs and the truck sits nice. this is an option as you dont want to crack the torsion bars much more than they are now for fear of busting CV joints.

i was talking to a guy at a local shop and he said that the front end on a 1997 explorer is similar to that of a 1998 ford ranger. what if i was to buy the suspension lift for the front end of the ranger and then do the rear end leaf spring lift that is customary for the explorer?

Yea you can use either the Superlift or Trailmaster lift kit. They drop the front diff and torsion bar mounts and give about 4" of lift. They use spring over axle in the rear as well. I think RCD has a coilover lift also... besides the kit you will need a new front drive shaft as well. You just jumped into a whole new price range with any of these kits.
