Hey all. I've had a problem recently that can supposedly be solved by the Factory Manual, but alas, my Explorer didn't come with the factory Manual *grumble*.

The issue I am having is that something is amiss with my Factory Alarm and it will go off randomely whenever it wants to it seems. It happens the most when its cold and or windy. First thought was "Sensitivity is too high", but then I realized the Factory alarm has no movement/motion sensors (I looked, it doesn't). I found a few posts mentioning that it could be the hood sensor (the one that senses when the hood is open or not). The issue right now is, I don't have time to research or replace that. I don't care about the alarm going off persay, but living in an apartment, the people around me don't like the nice alarm blaring at 3:14 in the morning, so I am trying to find a way to disable the horn aspect of the alarm until I can resolve the issue properly.

I found some mention of a way of programming the factory alarm into different modes. There are several modes I have found mentioned... "US, England.... and Japan". Each mode deals with alarms in different ways. The nice thing about Japanese mode is it disables the horn all together and only disables ignition and flashes the lights (and the theft light in the car).

I have found how to enter the programming mode for my explorer, but don't know how to set the different Alarm modes (I found instructions for a '95-'96, but they are different then the '97). If any kind soul has this information, I would greatly appreciate it (and my neighbors will too).
