Welcome. Do you have any fuel pressure?, Can you hear the fuel pump run when you turn on the key?.

May I ask why you would change the starter... sounds to me like you have no fuel pressure as well...

Thank you for replying...Guy's figured it was the starter wouldn't listen to a "woman" Lol!! when i told them that it ran out of gas and figured i brought up all the gunk from the bottom of the tank so now they're going to check the fuel pump, doesn't seem to be getting gas when we put more in the tank...Going to try an old trick of putting a little gas in the carburetor while someone starts it..tip from my 78 yr old farmer dad..lol! If that doesn't work going to change the fuel pump....

Tried putting gas in the carburetor and start it but it just back fired, can the fuel regulator be plugged? or does the 1997 ford explorer have a fuel filter?

Fuel filter is inside the frame rail, drivers' side, right about under the drivers' seat. Need a special tool to disconnect it though.

97 Explorer is fuel injected, no carburetor. when you turn the key to the on position you should hear the fuel pump in the gas tank come on for a second. See if it's doing that first.
