I just purchased a 1997 limited with the factory sub. I have no sound coming from the sub, is this a sub or amp issue? it also sounds like there is no bass coming from any of the speakers . Any info. appreciated.

I have the exact same problem with my 96'. I have yet to find a reason why it does not work. I have been told it is the amp, but I am not 100% sure about that. I have the Ford/JBL System though, so the problem could be completely different. If you find out any info be sure to let me know. right now my stereo is horrible.

Figured out problem

The sub had a small tear causing it not to work, was able to find a aftermarket sub in a 97 at a junk yard. Most of the subs there were missing or torn. The aftermarket sub I got sounds much better. I also bought a factory amp for the sub but don't need it will sell for $20.00 plus shipping if anyone needs it

I will buy it!!!!!!!!!

I have had 3 subs and they all broke. Also bass with not come from any speakers that are in the doors. Dont know why

The door speakers sort of have bass, it's just very faint. A slight upgrade to something like cheap 6x8 Pioneer speakers from Walmart would have tons more bass. I am buying some Infinity 6x8's for my Explorer.

No I just did the test yesterday. I took a speaker from a door and plugged it into the back and it only had a lot of bass. And took the subs I had and plugged into door and they only had sound.

Wow, that is odd. I don't understand what Ford, and JBL where thinking to just make one speaker have all of the bass. I am sure they did not know that the amp, or subwoofer would die as quickly as they did. I wonder if there is some sort of way to make the factory amp have some sort of lowpass filter to make the bass better?

A bunch of people don't me to just bypass the amp
