1998 Explorer V8 (loss of power)

got it ...it was the connector from the PCM to the coil pack on the passenger side...it started, running like it was going on just a few cyl.s I hate to do this (can be a really shocking experience) but while it was kinda running i went and started pushing each wire to see if there was a change. When I pushed the plug in the side of the passenger side coil from the pcm nothing, I brushed the wires just before the connector and it cleared up immediately! Now I have to figure if the wire is broken in the insulation or just one of the pins just not pushed in all the way......Good call Joe Dirt!

Clean your coil pack harness connector.

Also- if you have been on it over 500 miles bad gas isn't in there, unless you mean bad gas fouling things up... I would change the plugs and wires anyhow- put in Motorcraft stock, the truck is for sure worth it. I'd also change the fuel filter. It's probably not in the best shape being that this thing averaged, what- 3,000 miles per year?

Check this post if it doesn't clear up after cleaning the harness connector:

CLICKETH

Still an intermittent problem..more of a PITA than anything. Whenever I take the truck to 3-3500 rpm for more than a few seconds it hits...no loss of power just a CEL. Same code, messing with the wire connecter and wires themselves will cause the truck to stumble...think there might actually be broken wires inside the insulation...cleaned the connecters tried to push the wires into the connecter further(did not really move at all) any other thoughts would help!
