this axle is going in my jeep.

4.10 gears,
Detroit locker

what grade oil would be best to use in it? the tag said syn 75w140 only, but that doesent seem normal.

will 80w90 cause any problems?

also, how much does one of these axles take?

A little under 3 quarts. 75-90 works well, and you'll need a friction modifier for the locker as well.

friction modifier?

for a detroit?

dont think so!

Oh, if it's a full case Detroit then nevermind. I was thinking lunchbox style.

I don't recall seeing anything in the Powertraxx No-Spin literature about additives or friction modifiers.

Really? I thought all limited slips and clutch style lockers needed friction modifiers. I guess it's only limited slips.

pssst friction modifier only makes it slip more and more quiet

That might be a good thing then. For a full locker on the street, a little more slippage around corners would be better and a lot more tolerable.

will only work as mentioned, if the locker uses clutches to lock up....
a full spool or solid locking type it does nothing.

Right, I understand that. I'm getting a Powertrax, and was referring to that.

still, a powertrax no slip requires no friction modifier to operate correctly.

all that stuff does is make it "last longer" by making the clutches not work as hard.

so will 80w90 :D blow up my 8.8 or detroit? thats all I want to know... and was the proper spec just under 3 qts?

80w90 shouldn't be a problem. And yes, like I stated before, the proper quantity for fluid is about 3 qts.

There are no clutch plates in a No Slip.

Yeah, I realized that yesterday in another locker thread. Whoops. So are there any locker that use clutches or just limited slips? Does the Lock-rite?

Spindle, I use Mobil 1 synthetic, cause I can get it here.

The only set-up I know of that uses clutches is a limited slip. I believe the lock-rite is similar to the No Slip in that there are no clutches.

Yeah, that what I thought also. I think all lunchbox lockers work that way.

75w90 Mobil 1 synthetic-james
