99 Explorer 4.0 SOHC 4x4
I have a 1999 Ford Explorer 4x4 with a 4.0L SOHC with the 5R55E transmission.

We just installed a motor and drove it about 150 miles with absolutely no problems. I put it in reverse and backed up, then I put it in drive and nothing. Now I have no foward and no reverse gears. Fluid color and level is great.
I am really puzzled by this and any input on how to repair this would be appreciated.
:salute:

I don't know how far you want to dig into it, but first check all of the electrical connections on the transmission.
Check that the gear selector shaft going into the transmission is moving into the correct position. You could possibly try disconnecting the selector from the cable and shifting it by hand (with someone else in the Explorer holding the brakes) and feel to make sure the selector movement is smooth. There is a detent that will make it click into position.
If that you don't find anything there, the problem is most likely in the valve body.

It is very cold here today and tomorrow. Thursday I am going into the transmission to see what I can figure out. Any more ideas would be appreciated because if I can't fix it I will just replace it.
I found a another 73,000 mile transmission so I have another option if mine is too far gone.
