first off i have read about 40-45% of this thread.

an all of this thread

with out seeing or coming to a conclusion as to a solution for my issue.

my problem is the anti theft random goes off. an when i say random its just that. today it went off twice. both times i had only locked the rig not armed it. where this has not happened for about 3 weeks. when it it happened 3 weeks ago it was armed after driving it around for an hour or so since before that is was locked and armed for roughly a 5-6 weeks with out moving or being started. an not once did it go off during its slumber. so my real question other then what is going on? is can i disable the anti theft but still retain the keyless entry?

if i have to i will go aftermarket but would really rather not.

thank you.

anyone? my entire neighborhood got hit last night by some goons. luckily i have not been keeping valuable things in my truck because i can't lock it.

are you talking about the horn beeping? or does the truck already have an aftermarket alarm system installed?

its all factory. and the horn will just start honking at random. even if the antitheft isn't set and the doors are locked via key fob.

I dont know if its because of the alarm box because in Gen 1s its under the rear glass. take it out and wrap it in a grocery bag.

as far as i know the alarm is controlled by the RAP module. that's the cream colored box in front of the jack storage compartment.

today it went off twice. both times i had only locked the rig not armed it.

I'm not sure how you do this?? On my '97 EB, no matter how you lock the locks - lock buttons, keypad, fob - the alarm sets itself. I believe that even if you drive with everything locked, stop, exit thru driver's door, and lock only driver's door with the pop-up button on the door - the alarm still sets.

as far as i know, no matter how you lock it the alarm is set.

bobflood - bingo! that is what is going on here. no matter the locking method is will set.

currently it has been set since friday around 5:30 and has not gone off. the weather has changed from dry to raining to snow. wrapping the module in a plastic bag is a huge waste of time since no water is getting in the rig.

an last night after still not moving for almost a full 48 hours it randomly started going off.

Bummer - this must be frustrating. It sounds like something is happening to make the truck think that one of the doors/hatch/hood has been opened when it has not. The door/hatch ajar switches all connect to the GEM module; from there a signal is sent to the RAP module to trigger the alarm. The hood switch connects directly to the RAP module. Unfortunately, this makes trouble shooting a real PITA!

When the alarm goes off, can you look inside w/o opening a door and see if the interior lights are on and/or the door ajar indicator on the insturment panel is illuminated? These would all be indicators that the GEM module thinks a door is open.

The first place I would look is for a broken BK/YEL wire in the driver's side door bundle; if this is broken and shorting to ground, it would make it look like the door ajar switch had operated. Since the driver's door is used the most, that is the first place to look. Good luck; a test light and multi-meter will be your friends.

so i was at the gym tonight and it started blasting. 1 hour after i locked it. since then i have been home just over and hour and it has not gone off. does anyone know a way to bypass the alarm yet keep the power door locks? that is all i am really concerned about until i get a nice after market unit install in he spring.

Can you turn off the auto alarming? I am positive my alarm doesn't set until I click the lock on the Keyfob twice, and possibly when 7/8 and 9/0 is pressed on the door keypad.

unhook the horn for now. then the lights will just flash but better than annoying people
