I recently bought a 1999 4dr V6. It had some mechanical issues. All of which have been repaired. I finally figured out why the previous owner had 12 air fresheners throughout the vehicle. Cat Pee. I removed the front seats to steam clean underneath. I think the leather seat and seat cushion are also impregnated with cat pee. I'm going to dunk them tonight in a vinegar solution. If that doesn't work or destroys the factory seat, what have others done for seat replacement? I'm thinking about Bestop Trailmax II Sport. Is anyone running them or something similar? Adapting the Ford OE seat rails to other doesn't seem to be a big deal.

If by "steam clean," you mean one of those Little Green Machines, that probably isn't going to cut it. That will need 'real' steam generation and extraction, along with a shock treatment with an ozone generator. May have to cough up a few Ben Franklins at a competent detailing shop. You can also try this: "Dakota Odor Bomb Car Odor Eliminator." Some have had miraculous success with this. You may want to try it before going the detailing route. They can be found on Amazon and probably ebay. I don't recall ever seeing them in any local parts stores.

You can get replacement leather seat covers from www.theseatshop.com I think they only have the light tan color (at least that's all their site listed 2 years ago) and leather ain't cheap, but they look and fit just like the OE covers. I did my EB Explorer's driver's seat bottom myself. It turned out great, wasn't too hard to do and cost me about $200. The guy's at theseatshop were very helpful. I'll need to do my Mountaineer soon.

PS - They also sell replacement seat foam.
