hello all new here. my name is david. when driving down the road it will make a real loud whine coming from underneath. it only does it when your on the gas. some one told me it could be the rear end comming out. please help

You can start by checking the transfer case and rear axle. If you have to, put the rear axle on sturdy jackstands so the tires are off the ground, let the tires spin in drive with the car running. Put blocks in the front tires. Do not give it any gas. Just let the tires spin slowly so the gears turn in the transfer case and rear axle to see which ones making the noise. Usually you can detect it this way. You will have to crawl under the car while its running so if you dont fell safe doing this I reccomend you have a shop look at it. They have the proper equipment.

Another thing is it could be your exhaust maybe. Rev the engine up while in park to see if the exhaust makes noise. A cat or your muffler could be bad. Try this first.

Does the noise come from the rear differential? If so, you more than likely have a carrier bearing going out of it if it just makes noise under load and goes away during coast. This noise can also come from the ring and pinion. They can be flat worn out, or have developed a new wear pattern due to increased clearances from worn bearings. Time to pull the rear cover and take a look. If it is the bearing, fix it asap before you do take out the ring and pinion.

it mainly sounds like its comming from the rear. it only does it under load. thank you for helping, ill check that first. good fourum here.

further information = sitting in back seat passenger side, whining noise is louder than radio when accelerating. driverside very hard to hear noise. possible rear outer wheel bearing?

It sounds like your bearings might be going out, but I could be wrong. Heres a very helpfull thread for changing the bearings and seals.

This does not include the carrier bearings. Which could be your problem like cobraguy explained.
