1st gen front coil springs into 3rd/4th gen ???

Hi every one

Is it possible to install 1st gen explorer front coil springs into 3rd/4th egn explorer???

I'm thinking of using onr of the following:

• Superlift coil springs 4" lift #123
• Skyjacker coil springs 4" lift #134
• Skyjacker coil springs 6" lift #136

As long as its compatible with the strut, then sure. But if its not compatible with the strut, then there's probably no way to make them work without heavily altering the components.

The 1st gen Exploreres do not use a strut. They use a shock and a spring. They are not compatible with a 3rd gen.

so is there any choice for stiffer coil-over springs?

I need springs that can hold an extra 250+ lb in front end

Are you doing this to install taller springs? Check out the www.coilsprings.com thread at the top of the forum...you might be able to find what part numbers/manufacturers you need in there.

Ah I see what you just posted.

Try installing a set of coil spring spacers. They are installed between the sprign and spring seat and pre-compress the spring slightly so that it's stiffer and gives some lift to counter things like winches on the front.

Look at the universal types on www.energysuspension.com

I am not sure...you might have to go to the parts store and measure one to see.

Like Ronin said check coilsprings.com. Give them the ford number and they can fab springs to be stiffer. very good priced too!
