I'll be towing 12' flatbed w/2 atv's to colorado from texas.I wll be going in August. I have been to Colorado numerous times atving, but this is 1st. time we will be hitting easy to moderate trails with the vehicle. Looking for suggestions on what i should do to help with elevation changes, towing issues thru the mountains, ability to handle offroading and scenic exploring. MY vehicle is completely stock, and don't want to find out the hard way about some changes i coulda made to prevent leaving me and mama stuck, or just simply struggling. thx.

hey!
welcome to CO, it all really depends where you are goin in CO....the big worry right now is the snow, especially towing up the passes, make sure your planned route is open and clear, even then there might be ice.
for offroadin...it all depends what u wanna do, most of the CO contingent is really quiet lately, i'll be down for somethin though.

sorry.. i left out vital info... ill be traveling this summer, and will exploring the lake city area..loops and easy to moderate trails. I'm going to drop into lake city from the gunnison area so i don't have to tow the trailer over the passes if i come from the south. will the v-6 do the job?

lake city colorado? wha? dont u mean salt lake city, ut or am i just bein a knucklehead?
the v-6 will probably do the job, just dont push it too hard, ive never really hauled a trailer so i have no idea...

Trans temperature gauge and a secondary cooler are recommended at a minimum. The weakest link on your truck is your trans, make certain it is in good shape, ie fresh fluid before you leave out on your trip.

A hitch is absolutely necessary for towing any amount of weight, the bumper simply won't hold.

Check out4x4trails.net do a trail search under Colorado. It lists dozens of trails in all skill levels.

If you look down a trail and think "i don't know about this one"...don't go. Especially if you're not wheeling with a buddy ;)
