what's the difference? why would i go with one size over the other? right now i'm look at getting a flowmaster 50 series exhaust, but i don't know if i should go with the delta or the one they have specifically for the suv. any comments or suggestions? btw...it's going on a 92XLT 4x4. i will be getting the KKM intake soon. it's a city truck. thanks in advance guys.

Go with the 2.5". A little better breathing than the stock size. I tried a cat-back with a 3" and it was a disaster. Loud, resonates. You want to keep your exhaust velocity up at a decent level, and anything bigger than 2.5" will kill your velocity. Also, make sure you keep a resonator installed after your muffler, or you'll get the standard V-6 resonance that'll drive you buggy.

Personaly, I think the best route is to go with standard 50 series and a single 2.25" tail pipe, and ditch the resonator.

I agree with Mr. Boyle. With a good muffler, you won't have any resonation and you won't need the resonator.

Trabuco, yours is probably a SOHC, different characteristics altogether.

where is the resonator located? are there 3 different 50 series exhaust? standard, suv, delta?

Correct me if i'm wrong, but I believe stock pipe size on a 1st gen is 2 inches even. You can't measure the 1st gen stock pipe at it's end, because if you do that, you'll think it's a 2.25" pipe. That's because the stock 1st gen pipe is flanged at the end. At least my truck's is. Only at the very end of the tailpipe is there a slight increase in width (to maybe 2.25") so don't measure there, measure back on the pipe some.

2.25 is the ideal size for a V6. 2.5" is ok but it will be louder, and slightly less backpressure than a 2.25. 3 inches is too big for V6, all you will get is noise and less hp because of reduced backpressure.

I think Flowie makes the 50, 50 delta, and 50 suv. I'm not sure about the differences between them other than the delta which is supposed to be quieter, and yet flows the same as standard they say. Somehow that doesn't quite add up to me, but who am I to contest advertizing claims... :)

It depends on what kind of driving you do. If you want more torque than horsepower get the 2.25. If you want wee bit more top end and a wee bit less bottom and a wee bit more sound (which will be a little deeper in tone also) get the 2.5. A quarter inch wont make a tremendous difference, but a mild to unnoticeable one.

Jason, you might be right. Mine is a SOHC. I left the resonator off when I tried the 3" cat-back, and it was a killer booming. With the 2.5", it might not have such booming resonation.

as far as the inlet and outlet goes, does it matter if it is centered or not? which one do i get? if i am not mistaken, the part number for the muffler is 52455. please correct me if i am wrong.

do you recommend that i get a new cat conv when i get this exhaust setup done? a local shop here will do a cat back exhaust with the 50 series for $220. does this sound reasonable?

$220 is pretty good. I got a quote of $270 so 220 sounds good.
