Does anybody know where I can buy the 2 3/8" hex locknut socket to remove the nut from the front wheel bearing? I know the torque isnt much, but that would really suck to get that far and not be able to turn it by hand.

that big of socket would have to be a 3/4 or 1" drive best place would be a tool store like harbour freight

I used a big pipe wrench, if that helps...

Yeah I thought about using a pipe wrench or something but I didnt think it would fit in there.

I was hoping to do it this weekend. So I was looking for a local purchase, Sears has a 2 3/8" socket but its 12 point. Looks like I'm gonna try to use a wrench of some sort or hope it turns by hand. My rotors are shot, gotta be pretty badly warped, I can feel it pulse evertime I brake and at speeds below about 5 when I brake you can visually see the explorer slow faster at the warped spot every rotation! Not Good!

BrooklynBay, I found the socket for the manual hubs on the autozone website, but no luck on the socket for the auto hubs. Do you have a part no?

If it's the one with the pins you can get that at Napa...same socket for the d35 and d44 :D

the auto hubs are a regular 6 point socket I think. If the pipe wrench doesn't work for you, I read on here somewhere about taking a chisel and notching the nut, then hammering it off.

Does this help you: http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=40178

Oddly enough Autozone, and I imagine the other autostores, loan these big sockets. I loaned a couple when I changed the engine cradle on my son's girlfriend's Saturn.

i bought mine at napa. also check with places that sell heavy duty truck parts. the auto hubs use the six point socket and manual uses the four pins socket.

Thanks for all the info guys. Now I can replace my crappy rotors this weekend!

You really should only need Waterpump Pliers. Different then monster Pipe Wrench.

True, but its hard to torque the axle nut to the correct specs with pliers :o

I got some cheapo rotors from autozone. I would get the drilled and slotted to prevent them from warping again, but a) they cost a whole hell of a lot, b) they wear out faster c) my luck I would crash after spending that much on them.

I'm not worried about the torque setting, I have gotten pretty good at feeling approximete torue since my job involves torqueing something at least once or twice a week. The local Harbor Freight or anybody local for that matter did not sell the socket, they sold a set that had it for $40 but that is probably the only socket which would ever see use. Pretty uncommon sizes.

Yeah I am replacing the pads and bearings as well. Again I couldnt find any new caliper pins locally so I just got a wire brush and I will clean them up real good. Not really sure what hardware could easily be replaced.
