I seem to have 2 cats on my '92XLT. I'll be replacing my stock exhaust system with a Flowmaster Cat-back system. Will the new system replace one of my old and leave only 1 cat? Or will the new system bolt behind the 2nd cat?

you leave both cats alone. The cat back, will hook up to the 2nd cat. After it.

here kitty

Bruce u might consider getting high flow cats as well since u down under there. lol

yeah, i think it's illegal to remove 1

If you have'nt yet....definatly change the cats...thay will get clogged after 100,000 miles anyway.

Could that second cat be a resonator? My other vehicle has a resonator to keep the car quiet, & it looks just like the cat. Just a thought. I dont think my 92 x has 2 cats but now I will double check.

Tom,
According to my local Midas dealer your year model has 2 cats. I have a 91 and ran into the same thing when they became clogged. Needless to say they are still clogged, but in the process of getting switched to high flow cats. Also I was quoted for factory spec replacements they run about $160 a piece.

Yeah I found that out the other day when I was getting quoted for a new custom exhaust. Do you think emissions would know if it were switched to just one high flow cat? Would it still pass emissions?

I to had a dual converters on my 92 xlt. I went with a custom borla exhaust and one low restriction catalytic converter, and i have had no problems with emission test.

Right on! The muffler shop said that it wouldnt be a problem too, so I going back next week for a 2 1/2 exhaust system.
