Are there any other cheap 2" lift kits? I've heard of the under coil spring spacer and "add a leaf" or shackles. What's easier to install, the add a leaf or the schakles?
Is there anywhere on a write up of the step-by-step on the 2" lift job?
To follow that, what size tires can I run with this lift? Don't do extreme off roading, just want a higher and wider stance and be able to plow through some big snow banks in the winter!!
Thanks!
cheap 1.5-2" in the front is either going to be a new spring, or a spacer. the cheapest i think would be the f-150 coil seats, but the tallest i think would be new springs. i ran 2" spacers from ebay for a while on my dd, but later went to a 1.5" rough country spring and that actualy made it taller.
the back is either gonna be an add a leaf or a shackle. like other poeple have said, the add aleaf will make it firmer.
i've had two explorers lifted 2", and i didn't mind the stiffness of the add a leaf and front springs, it was alot better then the original that was on there.
all of this is really easy to do. either springs or spacers are both pretty easy. i would prefer new springs instead of a spacer, but for the price the spacer makes more sense. add a leaf's are pretty simple, find some instructions and folow them. it's all pretty much unbolt, and bolt back together. i had mone done before about 3 pm (not starting very early either)
i know ebay sells springs and leafs together as a kit for idk $150? and spacers for 30-40$ i think. there's also i guy that sells 1.5 lift shackes on ebay for like $40-50. skyjacker would make the best spring though, if it matters.
if you really wanna go cheap, get the f-150 coil seats and autozone lift shackles ( and i know people might get on my case for saying that, but hey, for the street should be fine, and anyone who runs em don't have problems with them, as far as i know)
i bought a used kit off ebay with james duff shocks and all. but if you buy used, make sure you get the right dive (4x4 or 2wd) cause 2wd spring are a little longer adn won't be able to align, but they do give you more ride hight as i found out
in my dd 2wd, i ran 1.5" front spring and stock rear with 31's and it was perfect. looked way better then stock! they rub a little on full turn and of course full compression when your like me and you jump it across the street gutters
if you don't mind rubbing im sure you can put 32's with the front and back up 1.5-2"s
( i acually fit 33's on a 2" lift, but i didn't drive it around like that, it was just to see how it looked before i put my 4" kit on)
and stock shocks are fine. if you want to get longer ones, go for it. if you just want to leave your stock length, they'll work just fine. but if your gonna have it apart and you need new shocks anyways, then ther's noo better time to change them.
oh i just remembered, go with 31" tire. looks good, fits well, doesn't rub much, AND YOU DON'T HAVE TO GEAR DOWN. i forgot about that.
man, did i start rmling or what? haha
