Are there any other cheap 2" lift kits? I've heard of the under coil spring spacer and "add a leaf" or shackles. What's easier to install, the add a leaf or the schakles?
Is there anywhere on a write up of the step-by-step on the 2" lift job?
To follow that, what size tires can I run with this lift? Don't do extreme off roading, just want a higher and wider stance and be able to plow through some big snow banks in the winter!!
Thanks!

There are probably 200 threads on this topic, AAL are a little harder to add then Shackles. Shackles will not change the ride, AAL's will add stiffness spring capacity. AAL's will give you about 1.5", AAL's will add 1.5 to 2.5" depending on the AAL and your leafs.

I tow so I went with AAL's

There is a spacer you can purchase for the front coils that will give you about 1.5 to 2" they are about 20 to 40 dollars per pair. If you go over 2" you will need to get the drop brackets for the TTB, otherwise your alignment will be way off.

Thanks...there's a note about not having to swictch shocks. My shocks are orginal and getting bad!! If I put on new ones, then lift at a later point, how much of a problem would it be to ride OEM size shocks?? Will I just loose around 1 1/2" of extension at full droop? I'm sure ride height won't be affected when they're compressed.
Also...no mention on tire size.....
Thanks guys!!
I'm at the very beginning stages and new to this (lifts) so any help or links is much appreciated .

...there is a chart on tire size if you use search or look on the main forums page...you are correct on loosing extension height and that can void your new shocks...:D

im in the same boat as you, sorta. i got some 31's and they rub so i trimmed the running boards and threw in a coil spacer (bought it for 5 bucks at autozone) temporarily, but i wanna get the skyjacker front coils, shackles, and some 0-2" lift shocks. i have no clue when they were replaced last.

...ezeedee, i am curious as to what a 5 dollar az coil spacer looks like...
...what kind of shocks are you getting that give lift??? or are you saying you are getting the 2" taller shocks to match your future lift??? did you read the f150 coil spacer sticky??? a number of X's have recently done this to their trucks and they seem to be really happy...:D

its a little rubber thing that goes in between 2 coils.

you can see em in that pic towards the bottom of the spring. theyre like that (but mine dont look so sloppy) its just a temp fix till i get the funds to lift it properly (and it saves my fender)

...the picture shows a coilover spring and i don't see the item you are talking about...if you throw a rubber in your coils all you are doing is stiffening the coil...this will not let it compress...
...if you would have went the other route, you wouldn't of had to trim anything...;)...your mom is going to kill you when she finds out...

right, its a little rubber block that stretches out a coil segment so it lengthens the spring. i know its stiffer, and not a proper way to lift it, but itll have to do until i get some more $

cheap 1.5-2" in the front is either going to be a new spring, or a spacer. the cheapest i think would be the f-150 coil seats, but the tallest i think would be new springs. i ran 2" spacers from ebay for a while on my dd, but later went to a 1.5" rough country spring and that actualy made it taller.

the back is either gonna be an add a leaf or a shackle. like other poeple have said, the add aleaf will make it firmer.

i've had two explorers lifted 2", and i didn't mind the stiffness of the add a leaf and front springs, it was alot better then the original that was on there.

all of this is really easy to do. either springs or spacers are both pretty easy. i would prefer new springs instead of a spacer, but for the price the spacer makes more sense. add a leaf's are pretty simple, find some instructions and folow them. it's all pretty much unbolt, and bolt back together. i had mone done before about 3 pm (not starting very early either)

i know ebay sells springs and leafs together as a kit for idk $150? and spacers for 30-40$ i think. there's also i guy that sells 1.5 lift shackes on ebay for like $40-50. skyjacker would make the best spring though, if it matters.

if you really wanna go cheap, get the f-150 coil seats and autozone lift shackles ( and i know people might get on my case for saying that, but hey, for the street should be fine, and anyone who runs em don't have problems with them, as far as i know)

i bought a used kit off ebay with james duff shocks and all. but if you buy used, make sure you get the right dive (4x4 or 2wd) cause 2wd spring are a little longer adn won't be able to align, but they do give you more ride hight as i found out :D

in my dd 2wd, i ran 1.5" front spring and stock rear with 31's and it was perfect. looked way better then stock! they rub a little on full turn and of course full compression when your like me and you jump it across the street gutters :D

if you don't mind rubbing im sure you can put 32's with the front and back up 1.5-2"s

( i acually fit 33's on a 2" lift, but i didn't drive it around like that, it was just to see how it looked before i put my 4" kit on)

and stock shocks are fine. if you want to get longer ones, go for it. if you just want to leave your stock length, they'll work just fine. but if your gonna have it apart and you need new shocks anyways, then ther's noo better time to change them.

oh i just remembered, go with 31" tire. looks good, fits well, doesn't rub much, AND YOU DON'T HAVE TO GEAR DOWN. i forgot about that.

man, did i start rmling or what? haha

Thanks man! That's the info. I'm looking for. I might as well wait to get the new shocks cause I want to wear my tires out before getting 31's also.
What's a reasonable 31" tire price? Also, what size rims are you using on the 31's?
Thanks

i got my 31's (2 tires pretty worn, 2 half tread) with rims for 150. most new 31's will run about 120 for a/t's and 150 for m/t's retail.

ezeedee sounds about right. i got mine from pep boys when they had a buy three get one free sale at $127 each (bfg a/t)

i run em on the stock rim, so that's a 15x7

damn, thats not too bad, gotta find out when they do that near me!

k...my shocks are really in dire need of changing. But I want to wait to lift 2" until my tires wear out, prolly another year or so.
Opinion and input:
- is there any repercussion of using a 2" longer shock on the stock ride height? ie. travel issues, etc.?
- or should I just replace with OEM size and not worry about longer ones when I lift a couple inches?

either way you should be fine. i've done both, stock and extended with the same 2" lift. as far as extending your shocks though, the radius arm is going to limit the travel more then the shock will

i just saw an add in the papper about it, they still have it going on
