After alot of researching and thought I've made up my mind on how I'm going to lift my 96 X. I just installed 4 new Michelin XCX/ACP 31 x 10.50's. I'm very pleased with the ride, handling and traction (snow) of these tires. My old 91 had 30 x 9.50 BFG AT's and although I was very pleased with those also, these tires ride much better. The only problem I had with the BFG's was keeping them balanced but they did wear very well. I'm not sure what to expect off-road with the Michelins but I really wasn't that impressed with the AT's either. Maybe I expected too much because of the aggresive tread. Anyway, back to the lift of the 96. I have spent alot of time searching this site and the opinions and results of those that have come before me.....I've come to one conclusion.....opinions are like a$$holes.....everyone has one and they all ....well, you know what I mean. Don't get me wrong. I've read alot of valuable info and without this site it would have been much more difficult but I probably changed my mind 100 times....warrrior shackles...maybe...no....how about add a leaf?...yes....would that be enough lift though because this guy says .5 " and this guy says 1.5"?....how about double add a leaf?...this guy says they are great but this guy says they suck!....what to do? Who do I believe? Well here's the plan. The Warrior 153's are out. I just don't like the looks and the idea of a lift with extended shackles doesn't set right with me. I know most of you have gone that route and that was the only reason I was considering it but most of the pics I've seen with these shackles the springs just don't look right. Sorry, just my opinion. The add a leaf from Pro Comp seemed the way to go and I almost bought a set but at the last minute got back on the site to search some more. That's when I found a thread from a guy saying to expect only a 1/2" from one add a leaf. I need at least 1 1/2 so that worried me. I had checked earlier about double add a leafs from Summit Racing and 4wheelparts.com and was told by both that no such thing was offered and the guy at 4wheelpart went on to say that he had "never heard of such a thing for an Explorer". I took that comment with a grain of salt considering he couldn't find the single one either until I gave him the part number (thanks to this site). After reading some more talk about double add a leafs I figured I'd give it a shot and call the store in Columbus and ask again...no dice. So....this is where I'm at. ONE post from a guy who said that he tried these spring packs on his Bronco and liked them and he gave the web address. http://www.springsnthings.com/ I called and they were very helpful and said that I can get 1.5" - 2" lift (from factory height) with their complete spring packs for $230. We have a winner! $269.92 shipped. I will let you all know how it turns out. Wish me luck. By the way...I found this site helpful when I was looking for tires so I'll post it.
