So guys my battery is running low and my Airbag light is still on. First I have cleaned the yellow terminals under both seats and both lights still come on. Secondly, I'm going to have to buy a new battery soon. Any recommendations on the battery (I'm out in the Arizona heat and the one I have now was drained pretty quickly). What about this one - http://www.autozone.com/autozone/pa...N-jnq36Zacy27?itemIdentifier=729134_176378_0_ ? Also would that maybe fixed my airbag light since it is not getting enough voltage? Suggestions for both are appreciated!

Yes, a new battery will take card of the airbag light. I would just get a 650 CCA Motorcraft battery and have no issues with it for the next 4 or so years.

Is the one I had too powerful? I just want one that will last a while and won't lose a lot of voltage.

Also do I need to get the dielectric grease for the connectors under the seat?

650CCA is the size that came from the factory and is all that you should need since you never really see that cold of temperatures. If you really want the Optima battery then fine go with it, but unless you do a lot of off road driving with a lot of bouncing around the extra money is not worth it and a Motorcraft battery will last just about as long in the desert. As far as the whole airbag thing, that indicator being lit up is a known occurrence with a charging system problem so no need to worry about the airbag light until you replace the battery and see if it goes away.

So I replaced the battery and the light is still on. When it is just me in the car it stays on. When there is a passenger in the car it mostly goes off, but I'd say it still comes on maybe 2 out of 5 times. The light is the one over the steering wheel, not the one above the radio that is going off. So which part or parts am i looking for or should I try?

Pull the code and see what it is, then you will have a better idea of where to start. It is sounding like a connector to me... did you separate any of them previously?

I did disconnect them before and cleaned them. Should I try it again? I havent done it since I put the battery in.

Yeah, I would recheck all the connectors that you messed with before you did the battery making sure that they are fully seated and maybe put dielectric grease on them. It sounds like an intermittent connection that has best contact when a passenger is sitting in the passenger seat so maybe there is one up under that seat that has the bad connection.

I got the code read. Its B2295. All of the connectors are secure. What kind of part and cost should I be looking at here?

That code is from the passenger airbag seat sensor. I would take a look at it and make sure that the wires going to it are not chaffed and allowing it to short out in any way and make sure that the sensor/switch is functioning correctly before replacing it.

What is the part number and where exactly is the sensor located? Does it need to be something I have a dealer or mechanic fix? And what cost am I looking at to repair it. The wires are all connected and it seems there are no shorts, crimped, or cut wires anywhere. Im honestly not sure how it happened.

Ford calls the part "occupant detection sensor" and it is mounted directly under the front of the passenger seat and held in place with 1 screw or clipped on a mounting bracket from what I am seeing in the diagrams over at fordparts.com. Part number 14B422. See here: http://www.fordparts.com/Commerce/C...ch=1&keyword=Occupant Detection Sensor#Search

I noticed something odd. I parked my car under the sun the other day and the light did not come on, I did it again and it didn't do it as well. I parked yesterday in covered parking and it came on this morning. So I wonder, would that still indicate the sensor is bad?

Also, if so, would it be ok to get this part from a junkyard? I can get it for a 3rd of the cost of a new one.

I see no reason why you cannot use one from a parts recycler as long as they ensure that it is a working unit. The fact that you can leave it in the sun and it works says that it is a bad connection somewhere, most likely in the sensor itself since you indicate that you have checked all connections coming to and going away from the sensor.

There are only two connections under the seat that I noticed. There is the one with the yellow end that I tried first and the one from the sensor. When I unplug them, the light still comes on and stays solid. I was trying to rule one out, but it made me more confused to be honest.

Another question I had, so this doesn't sound like the airbag module itself?

No, if it was the airbag module the system would report a different DTC. You can try taking out your current ODS to see if it is opening and closing correctly without getting stuck and maybe cleaning it with a plastic safe cleaner and put it back in to see if that helps too before you replace it.

One of the days that it was off (after it set in the sun) I unplugged the Occupant Detection Sensor and had the codes pulled while it was unplugged (and the light came back on). It was the same code, the B2295. So I'd agree it is the ODS, however, when I looked up the number on the part I got this: 6L24-19G275-AF, not the 14B422? That's even cheaper! :D
