I have 2 questions for you all....1)I believe there is carbon build-up in my TB, as is sticks right at the beginning of applying the trottle. I know Ford does not recommend using TB cleaner because of the special coating they use inside the TB. Does this really matter because the trottle sticking is annoying. 2)When I am in 4Hi (which I turn on at least once a month) and coming to a stop (below 30 MPH) I get a whining noise from the front end that lowers in pitch as I slow and it is not a steady sound, but cycles if that makes sense. Everything works fine, its just the noise. Any clues?? Thanks for the help...this web site is great. Oh, the vehicle in question is a 1999 XLT/SOHC/4x4/5sp Auto/89000 miles.

What I thought was a sticking throttle was actually the throttle cable not moving through the gas pedal right. If you havent done so, research the throttle cable mod. It will make a world of a difference, and also keeps my throttle from sticking when i first hit the gas.

I have read about this mod here. Does this make the truck idle higher since you take the slack out of the cable?

I did this mod with my 95 Explorer. It does not screw up your idle. Ford put way to much slack in the throttle cable. I used a couple of nylon ties to take up the slack. It's a mod that really does make a difference.

It's only taking out the slack, not actually pulling on the tb. So instead of having your pedal move a little bit before opening the tb, it'll open up right away..so more responsive.

This dose not fix the sticky throtle body folks as I have done it as well. You have to get rid of the varnish built up in the TB.

Thanks, smiley1. I was waiting for someone to get the difference. Did cleaning your TB mess up the coating or could you even tell?

Both are easy to do. You can do the Throttle cable mod and also clean the TB. You can use some carb cleaner and a tooth brush to clean the TB and between doing these two things, your truck will have a very noticeable increase in throttle response.
