New to this Forum.
Not new to wrenching, we run an older fleet as you can see in my signature so I do all my own maintenance and repairs, built a few old IH's and other stuff over the years so I'm pretty familiar with most things. Although I should say that most other builds have been on old school trucks, this is the newest vehicle that I'll be pulling the motor from.
My son has a 2000 Explorer 4L SOHC with over two hundred thousand miles that has been making the dreaded Timing Chain Rattle for a while. He loves the truck so instead of replacing the truck it we are going to replace the timing chains/tensioners and hopefully get another 100+K miles out of it.
Engine is almost ready to pull. Couple of questions though.
First question - I can't seem to get access to the top two bellhousing bolts. On my 95 F150 and other full size trucks we've had I could get to them from the bottom or top. I don't see them from the bottom and there does not seem to be much room to get to them from the top, specially the right one.
I know it can be done, would anyone mind sharing the detail as to how to access them?
Once I get the engine out and on the stand I will continue to review the posts here that detail the replacement process.
Second question for now is where to get the OTC 6488 Alignment tool set without buying it brand new since this is a onetime thing for me. I usually don't hesitate buying tools except when I know I will probably never use them again and in this case seem to be a couple hundred bucks.
Anyone have a set they bought that they can loan, rent, or sell cheap?
I'm sure I'll be spending a lot of time on here now, at least until we get the truck back on the road again and I appreciate any help/advice along the way.
