2000 Explorer 5.0 AWD
I had a 1999 Explorer that was in an unfortunate accident and is unfortunately totaled. Therefore I am looking for a new one 1999-2000 Explorer Eddie Bauer 5.0L AWD/4X4. If anyone can help me in my search it would be much appreciated thank you!!!

craigs list for your area

Buy from calofornia area! No rust is nice... Mine at 278k is rotting pretty hard up here in canada.

I have been looking all over the country mainly south. I also have been on every used car site.

IMO 5.0L AWD are very hard to get by. Usually the market is full of V6...

I have seen that all it is is v6 and more v6 but who doesn't want a v8 haha. but I have found a few and while I am trying to work a deal they are already sold. I hope to find one very soon!!! Thanks for looking for me though. If you would be nice enough to just keep an eye out in your area, a possible hit would be much appreciated.

I may be selling my White 1999 Limited in the next couple of months.

I will definitely give this some thought. I really appreciate how you have all of the service history, that it is a huge plus. Would you be able to post more pictures for me?

Try looking at the Mountaineers.

A little over 2 years ago I found a 2000 Mountie 5.0 AWD with all the toys and 63000 miles on the clock for $3000.00.

They're out there, just not quite as plentiful as before.

Here in south Florida there are always several or sale.

In VA, on CL, the ratio of V6 versus V8 it is something like 10:1.

In GA clean V8's are getting very hard to find. Not that many AWD's either. I see them occasionally. The last one I saw was about a month ago, a one owner beautiful dark green '99 EB with full service history and low miles. The seller was only asking $1,950 and it sold within an hour. I sent an email with an offer, but I was too late. If you see one you've got to snap it up quick.

I have 4 of these 5.0 AWDs and one thing that helped me finding them was to search for Mountaineers instead of Exploders. I think percentage wise they are much more likely to be 5.0 AWDs. Another plus to the Mountaineers is that you can rent from U-Haul where you cannot with the Exploders. When I have looked for these 5.0 AWDs it seems like half the time the owners do not even know if it is a 5.0 or AWD and just searching for Mountaineers increased my odds of finding one.

One of my neighbors from across the street had one of those second hand Mountaineer V8 AWD and had no clue that is AWD - he just assumed that is not "4x4" because... it didn't have a button on dash!
Didn't even bother to bend over to look under it.

I know not the year your looking for but for anyone interested I have my 98 5.0 AWD Limited for sale...The lady I got it from fell off the face of the earth before giving me the title and there is nothing I can do with that in Maryland. It would make a good parts or swap vehicle for states that require a title. I'm looking to get what I have in it back which is $950. Let me know if interested and I'll get you some pics and more info.

Good tip about looking for "Mountaineers" rather than Explorers. They tend to have a higher percentage of V8's and AWD. Here's one currently on Atl CL that says it's 4x4, but it appears to be a V8 (fender badges) which means it's AWD. Personally, I think the Mountaineer's are better looking than the Explorers (less stupid plastic side-trim and better looking grille) and they're the same vehicle mechanically.

Links to 2 current postings below, there are several listed. Mileage is pretty typical @ 176k. Sometimes you may find one with under 100k, but's pretty rare. After all, 15 years @ 10k per year = 150k average. All of mine have between 170-235k and they all have plenty of life left in them. The most common "more major" repairs I've had to make are fuel pumps, radiators and ball joints. All inexpensive, easy repairs if your a DYI'er. Of course, if you're familiar with Gen II's you know all about the common "minor" repairs.

There are more 5.0s awd Mountaineers, but I personally like the look of an explorer much better then a mountaineer.
I do work in the auto repair field so I would be able to do anything that it needs as long as the money and time are available.
