2000 Explorer Idling Problem

I have a 2000 Ford Explorer XLT - it has a rough idle (when in drive and stopped) when the AC is turned off but otherwise seems ok when the AC is on.
Any suggestions?

It very well might be your IAC, idle air control valve. But that would likely show symptoms the other way, rough with the AC on.

What is the idle RPM with your rough idle, and what is the idle RPM with the AC on? In drive with the truck warm?

RPM reads about the same - 1500-1600rpm but it rounds rougher with AC off -no visible change in RPM -IAC was recently replaced so we can rule that out

That idle speed is way too high.

I'd try cleaning your MAS, mass airflow sensor, and resetting the computer.

I know is a dumb question, Alec, but, where is located the IAC in a SOHC 4.0 engine?

Almost the same place as on the OHV. Bolted to the intake manifold behind the TB, probably under the little cover.

Another dumb question: The IAC is a serviceable part? I mean, you can open, clean, etc. like the MAF sensor?

1) HUH?

2) you can try to clean it but most of the time you have to replace it.

Answer to the: HUH?
I have a 92 XLT 4x4 and the engine, according the Haynes manual, is a V6 4.0 over head valve (OHV), not single over head cam (SOHC). I'm right? That why I say "there's no "SOHC 4.0" in any X, is a OHV engine."
