- 2000 Explorer XLT 4x4
Hello,
I have looked on the site and only found information for up to 98 Ranger's with this problem. Mine is a 2000 Explorer 4.0 L. Engine. This problem started over a year ago. Originally, changing the plugs and wires solved the problem for about a week. Then you could just change the #4 plug and the code would go away. Now it doesn't matter what you do the P0304 will not go away. I have noticed smelling antifreeze burning when my wife comes home from work. It always has leaked antifreeze since it was 3.5 years old. Never can really find the leak. I am wondering if it is the lower intake manifold leaking antifreeze. But wouldn't you find it in the oil as well? I change the oil every 3-5k miles and have not noticed any liquid other than the oil.
Today she brought it home and you can actually hear a misfire in the exhaust. Plug always looks great when you remove it from the head but it is usually rusted. I always put a little high temp never seize on it so that it comes out easier. It has plugs and wires which are no older than 6 months. I had a friend test the coil pack and he said it worked fine on his explorer so I would say that rules that out as well. He drove it for 3 days with it on his explorer no problems.
My main question for you Explorer GURUs is the instructions for a 98 ranger the same as the 2000 explorer 4.0L? I rebuilt a 91 Explorer 4.0L and it looked quite a bit different?
Thanks in advance for help offered!
