I have the Haynes Repair Manual and all my symptoms point out that my ECT sensor is faulty. picked a new one up today but the manual says to wrap the threads with teflon tape and there arent any threads on it. do i have the wrong one?

There are likely 2 sensors which give engine coolant temperature information. One operates the dashboard gauge, the other feeds a signal to the computer (PCM). I believe they must both be threaded, and extend into the coolant jacket. imp

wrong one

You have the wrong one. The later generation SOHC V6 engines have a redesigned coolant temperature sensor and engine temperature sender that clip into the housing. The second generation housing has brass inserts that easily slip and then leak. I applied epoxy to mine to keep them from coming loose. See Post #375 of:SOHC V6 Timing Chain Saga

A new housing from the dealer costs about $300. There's an upgrade kit availabe with new housing and sensors for a lot less and it's more reliable. Try searching on "thermostat housing".

Just did this upgrade and changed all hoses easy to do. Guy on Ebay sells the kit or the diffrent parts cheap, even had the clips.

i know its a little late guys but thanks for the info!

Assuming you exchanged the wrong ECT sensor for the threaded type.
Hopefully you got it replaced without breaking the lower t-stat housing.
