Greetings all I'm new here and found this forum in my research. Searched the forum and didn't turn up one like this so here we go. Have a 2000 Explorer that I purchased from a private owner for my daughter's car. Of course it didn't display this behavior on 2 test drives. Anyhow Explorer has 178000 miles on it 4 liter v6. Driven in normal fashion it's fine for about 10 minutes except OD will not engage. After about 10 minutes OD off light starts flashing and shifts become more abrubt warning light can be reset by turning off car. Turning OD switch off before flashing begins makes it operate in normal fashion minus OD with normal shifts kickdowns and smooth shifts no obsevable slippage and warning light does not come on. (I noticed last night going home that there does not seem to be any engine braking at all. Let off the throttle and car coasts and engine idles) I've tried the battery disconnect idea, no dice. Took it to ford dealer to read codes and came up with PO732 and PO735. Before I get a Jasper reman to the tune of 1900 and installing it I'm wondering if I can salvage what I have with some undercar wrenching? Any help appreciated as my daughters going to take my 2003 Explorer to college with her and park it in the lot from hell. (all space are 4 inches wider than the vehicle parked in them.

thanks Steve

Ok since the silence is deafening let me put this another way. What do you guys think the chances are of replacing my OD servo doing the trick? If I replace the valve body and the two outside servos by the cat what do you experts think the chances of restoring normal operation are?

Thanks, Steve

sounds like a problem with the OD...could be the servo, could be the band adjustment, could be a broken band, could be the OD unit is toast (clutches, etc)

could be the shift solenoid, could be a gasket blown out....& the list goes on...

J..hard to diagnose long distance, sometimes.

Well since I have some time before this one needs pressed into service I will crawl under there and see what I can see. What has everyone's experience been with boneyard transmissions for these vehicles? I recently helped a friend by replacing the auto in his older Civic w/ a boneyard unit and had to do the job twice. Not a pleasant experience. Does anyone on the board have recommendations for good remans? Seems Jasper knows there stuff from what I've seen, anyone else?

Thanks
