I have a 2000 explorer 4.0 the o/d light keeps blinking and the trans shifts long and wont shift after 30 to 40 mph, it happened after taking it mudding and water got in the coil pack, it stalled in the mud and water, and i had to restart it and drop it in drive to get out, any ideas if i need a new trans or sensor, or what, thanks in advance

Scan the vehicle for codes, the flashing light is a indication that there is a trouble code stored for the transmission, post up the codes once you have them. Hopefully it's something easy like a speed sensor problem.

No the code is stored in the memory of the computer, not all scanners can retrieve transmission codes, it sounds like you need a better scanner. Maybe swing by Auto Zone, they will scan it for you.

Look into free software called FORSCAN. It will scan your code and show live transmission data. Uses an inexpensive OBD adapter.
