I currently have a 2000 Limited Explorer - V8, loaded, tow package etc. I have had it one year and have just turned 36,000. I purchased an ESP service agreement that entitled me to oil changes and brakes. At 26K I had my brakes serviced and replaced at Bonanza Ford - Sonoma. 9K miles later, I felt pulsating in my front brakes. I thought they might be warped. I took it in and asked them to advise me and repair under the warranty. I had 35, 800 miles at that time. They called me back and asked if I had towed anything. I told them I towed my boat - 3500lbs - 10 miles for servicing but indicated I have brakes on my trailer. In the end, they did not honor any warranties - and in a nice way - stated that I had overheated my breaks and there was brake pad transfer on the rotors. An interesting response given the fact that I had driven my Explorer all summer with my boat and spent all winter up and back to Tahoe without issue.

My challenge is I feel I got screwed because they already replaced my brakes once under my service agreement - perhaps they felt one free set was enough. They also stated that because the wear on the brakes was minimal - that rotor replacement or turning the rotors was not under the warranty. However, had I had no pads left and trashed the rotors, they would have replaced everything. Anyone else have this type of issue?

This is not my first Explorer - I have had a '92 XLT 4WD - V-6, '96 XLT 4WD V-6, 98 XLT SOHC V-6 and currently a 2000 Limited V-8 AWD.

Thanks,

Start with the General Manager of the dealership. If you have to, make a stink in the showroom. If the GM doesn't help take care of things then write directly to Ford.

Welcome to the site Mark.

Thats the problem with the ESP agreements. I agree with Tim, start writing, and when you write to Ford make sure you tell them how many Explorers you've had, and how if this isnt resolved you may not consider another one again.

Good luck.

BTW, I'm going to move this over to the "General Explorations" forum.
