Had tranny fluid and filter changed 2 days ago, now speedo doesnt work, tranny will not shift properly and when it finally shifts its a very hard shift and the OD light starts blinking. gives a diagnostic code 0500 speed sensor error. I replaced the sensor in the rear differential thinking that was the part and still have same problem. I,ve been told that there is an internal speed sensor on that Tranny. Could it have been damaged or connection loosened during filter change? :(

Welcome to this forum! The internal speed sensor would throw the following codes:
P0715 Input/Turbine Speed Sensor Circuit Malfunction
P0716 Input/Turbine Speed Sensor Circuit Range/Performance
P0717 Input/Turbine Speed Sensor Circuit No Signal
P0718 Input/Turbine Speed Sensor Circuit Intermittent
The code you are getting is P0500 Vehicle Speed Sensor Malfunction. Have you checked all of the fuses? Look inside of the opening where the sensor goes onto the differential to see if there is any internal damage. The sensor could be good while the part in the differential could be bad. Do you also have a problem with your cruise control, and ABS?

Thanks Brooklyn for the input. I had a ford Transmission guy tell me that code was definitly the internal sensor, but as you know not all professional mechanics know what they're talking about. I sure dont want to tear into the tranny if I dont have to. I havent done any tranny work for nearly 20 years and there has been alot of changes since then. I guess I'll eliminate all else before pulling tranny. If I find the problem I'll post it.

Found the problem. I never would have guessed this would cause the problems it did and I'm almost embarrased to admit what it was. I was actually ready to tear into the tranny in an effort to fix this problem.
BLOWN 10 AMP FUSE. Can you F*^#ing believe it. I never could find any reference between the fuse and the speed sensor but obviously they are connected somehow. Thank GOD I checked them before going any further.

The first thing that I suggested was to check the fuses, since you said that it happened right after a fluid change, and the speedometer stopped working. Everything is controlled electrically, so if something stopped working, it makes sense to always check the fuses. Thanks for letting us know what it was. You could also tell that shop which gave you the wrong advice about the codes.
