Noob to Explorers, but long-time Ranger owner. (~300k on a Vulcan V6)
I just picked up a 2000 SOHC XLT truck that I am in the process of rebuilding. It is in need of a Radiator, amongst other things. It holds fluid, and the temp gauge doesn't budge, but I am planning on putting some miles on it, and want it to be reliable. I can see only 2-3 drops of antifreeze coming from the lower passenger side corner (it was hit there) after the truck has been running for 10-15 minutes. It doesn't leak if the truck is not running, so I know the puncture is very small. I realize that I could throw some stop leak in it and band aid it, but that's not the way I like doing things.
My question is that since the Ford replacement is so expensive, I am curious as to anyone having great success with an aftermarket upgrade/OEM equivalent radiator. I know these engines are susceptible to head problems if overheated, so I want to make sure I keep it as cool or cooler than factory.
Any help is appreciated.
