2000 XLT Shift Knob Removal

i bought a carbon fiber shift knob today for my truck. when i tried to take the shift knob off it fully came off the twist but it feels like there is a wire for the overdrive. i want to put on the new shift knob but i dont want to pull it off and rip the wire out(if there is even one in there). can someone please explain how to do this please?

Yes there is wiring for the overdrive button. There is a ring around the button that just pops off then you can take out the button innards and unplug it. Getting it to work with one of those universal ones is a whole other issue though. I did it about 5 years ago and I really had to finagle it.
