My 2001 Explorer recently started the dreaded death rattle. While driving home from work I heard a klunk and the engine died. I pulled the valve covers and discovered that the rear right tensioner had failed. The left front seems to be in good shape. If I turn the engine over by hand the left cam turns but the right cam does not. The chain on the cam looks to be intact. I was wondering what would cause this and how much damage there could be.
