2001 4x4 going into 4wd on its own

Baritoneblaster my Sport Trac has the same issue, I think, it comes on sometimes or if i pull the fuse for the 4x4 but in general it does not work. I was thinking that it may be a short somewhere. Can you elaborate on your "short way up in the dash"?

Sorry for the delay my truck got hit a couple weeks ago. So I have been busy tracking down parts and haven't felt like being on here. When we started moving wires around, before we got to far from the module it started working, and has worked ever since. Originally I was able to get it to work by taking the radio out and wiggling the wires on the back of switch. I quit looking as I haven't had a problem since.

This happened to me put the unit in HI, locked the tranfer case in hi
did NOT install the shift motor back. still have 4 wheel auto and 4 wheel drive.
but gave up 4 wheel LOW.
