I have a 1995 Ford Explorer Eddie Bauer and im having alot of problems with it just engaging 4x4 all by itself driving down the road and it wont let me go over 30 mph well at least without my rpm's going way high. Then a few starts later or after a night of sitting it will just kick itself out of it? so my question is what would cause it to engage 4wd all by itself and is there a way for me to just bypass it going into 4wd at all or fix the fact that it does it by itself. Thank You:exp::(

It sound like the shift motor position sensor. But no matter the cause, an easy fix is to remove the shift motor & use vice grips to change low/hi range manualy. It will take you 15 min and cost nothing. That is what I did.

thanks you if i take off the shift motor would i still be able to drive it in 2wd that's all i really wanted to keep doing was drive in 2wd. and is there a forum topic about where that is located?
