2001 explorer sport pinging code po171 po174 2500 rpm

Any help on this one?
Smoke test showed no leaks.
Cleaned MAF. Replaced air filter.
Mainly pings going up hills or under load.
Higher octane fuel not helping.
106K miles on vehicle.

fuel pressure?

If your lean codes for both banks only occur under load then I suggest that you check the fuel pressure.

Will check fuel pressure and re-post

The service station that checked the fuel pressure said that it drops from 40 to 15 psi under a low vacuum / acceleration condition. I feel that this is the problem.

Does anyone agree?

I agree. Lean is caused by two things, too much air or not enough gas. You have ruled out an air leak. When was the last time you changed your fuel filter?

Changed fuel filter and still seems lean with low power on the highway especially going up hills.

Sold my Explorer. Couldn't take all the stupid codes that so many Fords have.
Bought a Jeep with 3 year warranty. No more Fords for me.
