From reading through the posts in this forum, it generally looks like 265/75R16 with no lift will fit with minor rubbing on the inside rear of the front fenderwell. However, I didn't notice anyone running them on '01 and newer Sports and just want to make sure the updated body style doesn't present any new challenges. I am concerned about running a 32" tire with 3.73 gearing, but that's another ball o' wax. If it matters, we're talking 99% street use here.

I'm asking because I stumbled onto an '01 Sport 4x4 with 24K miles at a dealership for $15K. My '00 F-150 just rolled over 100K and I've been thinking about going back to a more practical short-wheelbase ride anyway. Chuckles...nothing like planning mods before you even own the truck, huh?!?

Thanks!

Depending on what shape the 01 Sport is, it sounds like it could be a helluva deal. I have an 01 Sport Trac, and since our entire front clip (fenders, hood, bumper, etc) is identical I don't think you'll have much rubbing with no lift (ie TT in the front). I have a 1.75" or so TT and I have 32x11.50's (about an inch wider than the 265 75's) and I only rub a little on the inside fenderwell (actually on the front sway bar, more specifically). You may want to go up just a bit for nicer fittment but you shouldn't have many issues stock.
I have 4.10's, but I know many sport trac owners with 3.73's and 32" tires and they don't seem too bothered by power bogged down (not to mention we're alot heavier than the sport) :)

Thanks!

Thanks for the input, Becker...I appreciate it! The Sport is in good condition...only cosmetic issues appear to be some stains on the seats (hoping a good shampoo as part of detailing will pretty much take care of that), some wear around the stereo power/volume knob, some scuffs on the plastic in the rear storage area and maybe a couple minor scratches on the exterior (it's silver, so they're kinda tough to see). The kicker for me is only 24K miles on the drivetrain. I'm hopefully heading up there this afternoon to see what they'll offer for my '00 F-150 4x4 w/100K miles but in good condition...if they'll meet me halfway between Blue Book trade-in and private party, we should have a deal. I'm going to be sure to point out that 1) I know they're making money even at the low price, because they bought it at auction, 2) They could still make $4-5K off my F-150 if they give me what I want for it, and 3) A lot more people are probably looking for 4x4 XLT SC Flareside Off-Road Pkg. F-150's in good condition than Explorer Sports. Ah well, I babble...we'll see!

I've pretty much decided I'd go with the LT265/70R16 BFG AT KO's, which should come out to about 31x10.5 on the stock ('premium') rims. Figure that way I get a little bit more size (though I know they'll look bigger with the KO's square shoulders), but won't risk losing much power due to gearing and shouldn't have any rubbbing issues. Got a quote from Big O for $688 out the door.

Thanks again for the input!

Sounds like you have a plan :) Hopefully you'll get your new ride and start enjoying it. Not to mention it'll be waaay easier to park than the F150 :D
