2001 Sport Trac slow??

Just picked up a new '01 ST 4x4, nice truck except for this main area:

-- S l o w ?? What's up? My wife has a 2000 XLT 4x4 4door, stock, and the throttle response and accelleration is noticeably better. I went back and test drove another '01 ST, same performance, so it's not my truck. I think the 2 trucks are close to the same weight, the '00 has 3.73 gears, and the ST has 4.10 gears, but 16" wheels, so that shouldn't make the difference. Did FORD pull a fast one here and reduce the HP to make it LEV? R&T says this truck will do 0-60 in 8.8 seconds, but I doubt it. I'd like to hear what other Sport Trac users have to say.

PS. Just installed a KKN Tru Rev on it - yup, I can feel a little more response, but still behind the wife's ride. I've ordered a Dynomax cat-back, and expect that to provide some improvement as well. I'll let you know how it goes.

which engines are in them?

there are 3 available engines: OHV V-6, SOHC V-6, and OHV V-8.

there are differences in horsepower. OHV V-6 has the least. then the SOHC. and the V-8 has the most.

From my understanding the SOHC V-6 is the only engine offered in the ST..

4.0 SOHC - that's the only option on the ST.

is the 2000 a V8?

if not, i dont know. maybe something is different. like maybe the air intake is more restrictive, or maybe there is something wrong with it. someone brought their explorer to the dealership, and had the computer reprogrammed. that gave it the performance it was supposed to have. you should check it out. maybe yours is set wrong too.

From what I gathered at the www.mysporttrac.com site, there are pretty much no differences between the 2001 and 2002 STs. No V8, etc...

My 2000 (or should I say my wife's) Explorer 4x4 has the 4.0L SOHC. That's why I can tell there's a noticeable difference.

Now - the post reporting that someone was able to have the computer reprogrammed is interesting. I'll put it on my list for when I bring it into the dealer.

Too bad - what this truck needs is the 4.7L Triton V-8 (tweaked to about 275hp would be even better). I still can't believe given the popularity that Ford hasn't let SVT develop a special version....

I've got a 2001 Sport Trac, and it can haul pretty well. Its decent but not spectacular acceleration for me. Only mods i've made is flowmaster 40 series slapped on there. With no A/C on, i've not officialy timed it, but i can do 0-60 pretty quick for an SUV. Hopefully i'll try to get it timed soon.

i have a 98 2 dr sport with 4.10 gears and no mods and i have beaten the 4.7 and 5.2 durango, 5.0 explorer ltd, and it will blow away all 4.0 f dr explorers through 0-60 and 1/4 mile
the light weight / big gear and no wheelspin make for a quick little truck. i would double check that you have the 4.10 gear and be patient when the motor loosens up it will go better

Wait for the engine to break-in. My wife's Sonoma with the ZQ8 package and the 4.3 Vortec engine did not get great performance until about 10,000 miles.

I noticed you have the KKM kit, so you've fixed the restrictive intake on the sohc. I would let the engine break in a bit longer. I have noticed some improvement in my ST over the past 3,000 miles. It is also possible that Ford geared the transmission differently, or set the shift point differently than the 4dr Explorers.
