2001 st check fuel cap light

I found that the vent hose from my fill spout to the back of gas tank was broke and I rehooked it up and re clamped and about 20 miles later I got the check fuel cap light on the panel. My question is why would the light not have been on with the vent broke but now has the problem. Any insight would be great.

because that light is nothing more than a pressure sensor. your fuel system is pressurized the vent is just that a vent. when you fall below a certain pressure the light comes on. maybe your fuel cap is actually lose? or you bumped something while fixing the vent hose.
