We have a 2001 Sport Trac that has a couple problems..not sure if they are related or not.But the shift indicator doesnt line up 100% to the P N R 2 1 when in each gear.Matter of fact I cannot even get it in to 1.The shift lever feels loose and you can jiggle it back and forth while in gears.A few times it says its in P , not quite all the way on the P ,but you go to get out nad the truck will start to roll a tad then you hear some clunks and it stops. Its cause the shifter is not going into Park all the way unless you really jamb it up there.

Then I believe what we are experiencing is the 2-3 shift flare.Never really noticed anything until this year and it really only does it first thing in the morning or when the tranny is not warmed up.It will rev prol like 5-600 rpms and hte speed dont pick up.This sound like the 2-3 flare?Only happens it seems on the 2-3 shift. If you punch it from a dead stop or anything the tranny doesnt slip.Anyone have any input as this is the wifes vehicle and I need it 100% since my kids are in it.

Wheres all the help?:salute:

Noticed today while driving down the express way cruising around 70mph and about 2500rpms, the rpms went way up to 4k and the truck didnt pick up speed. Then it comes back down to the 2500 rpms.Could this be a bad torq convertor or possibly a blown gasket or solenoid? It happens intermidiantly.Wife drove it to work and she said it was fine.REALLY need some help here.

Thought I would add that the fluid is a more of a red color then brown, seems to smell alright and the truck has 130k miles on it.

Bump for you because of the weather

That sounds pretty serious... I'm no tech, so I have no advice, but maybe someone will be able to advise. PA, NJ? :D

Yeah, Im stumped. It doesnt throw any CEL and the OD light does not flash when it does it either.

Something similar happened once...

This was another vehicle, not mine, but the seals went bad. It would just rev up while driving, but you could feel the vehicle kinda coasting when it rev'd like that... and then it would "catch" back into gear... that what it seemed like.

Thats what mine is doing. What seals and how do you replace them?

This one is out of my league...

Let's see if the techs respond now... They know this stuff inside out. :help:

I cannot even put it in 1st gear to see if it has no engine breaking, the shift lever stops before it goes into 1st.It does clunk going into reverse most of the time, I would say 4 out of 5 times it does.Even on level ground.

Im hoping someone can help me out soon.

They all had to be replaced...

It wouldn't go into reverse, the brake had to be held down while pressing on the gas to get it to catch. Then when it did, in order to go forward it had to go through the same process... but it was worse in cold weather.

I think they said there were 6 seals, but that was forever ago... When the Ex started, it was a solenoid that had to be replaced...
