2001 wont start in drive but starts in neutral

My 01 explorer wont start in park intermittently. But does start in neutral at all time. when exhibiting this malfunction all electrical systems work ie lights wipers etc. any help would be appreciated. Also does not ceank when it does this in drive

is it an automatic? if so its not supposed to start in drive. if it does thats a problem. i would say it has something to do with the neutral starter safety switch.

LOL i meant park. would replacement of that switch invovle the ignition switch

Transmission Neutral Safety Switch. Is not supposed to start in "D", only in "N" or "P"...

Where is it located.

Check the shift cable as well as the range sensor. The range sensor is located on the driver's side of the transmission.
