I got my explorer from an auction for a really low price knowing the issue had to be the timing guides. My father and I took the engine out and completely replaced all of the timing chains and guides. *though at the time money was low and i found an ebay listing for the whole kit for about $100 so i might be regretting that now* The engine ran for about a week then i heard the wretched sound of the chain slapping again and the oil gauge just jumps from low to mid section really fast. At the time i was just so aggravated with it i parked it and left it alone for 2 years. After getting a engine hoist and a few other things for myself i decided to pull it in the garage and start looking into what had happened. I did everything in this order.

A. Drained the fuel from the tank and went ahead and changed the fuel pump.
B. With new fuel the engine fired right up but 1 code kept popping up *the p1633 low voltage code. But the engine ran and sounded great besides the chain slapping noise.
C. With a stethoscope i listened to where the noise was coming from and at the time i could hear the left front chain slapping and making noise so i knew it had to have broke. Thank god because i really don't want to pull the motor again.
D. In the process i took out the radiator, alternator, laid the a/c and power steering pump to the side out of the way, removed the wires on the left side valve cover to be able to remove it, the vacuum hose below the A/c pump and thermostat housing, then the timing cover.
E. I noticed while taking it apart both bolts that held the guide in place where out so i figured that one of them didn't get tightened enough and the chain ripped the guide apart which ripped the other bolt out.
F. Replaced the guide with new bolts making sure i marked where the chains and sprockets went along with making sure the cam was in the same spot with the notch lined up with the head like it's suppose to be.
G. Put everything back together and rechecked all my connections. Also turned the motor over 4 rotations manually and didn't hear anything bad nor felt any kinda hard strain besides the compressions. No noises either.

and now
H. When i turn it over It starts then dies after it revs down. Sometimes i can get it to rev twice pressing the pedal but it still dies after it revs down. I can also still hear a tapping noise which i'm praying is the lifters just needing to get more oil. The noise sounds worse sitting in the seat than standing outside looking at the motor. From the outside it sounds like its coming from the top of the motor near the front.
The oil gauge is still sitting at the L point sometimes jumping up for a second or two while the motor is running. I know that oil is getting to the valve covers because I have a slight leak from the valve cover i had to put back on. I even changed the oil sensor while i had the engine apart since it was easily to get to.

later tonight i will get a video of the engine running and dieing and hopefully i can get some great ideas of what the issue could be. I'm looking into the p1633 code to see if that maybe has something to do with it. I'm gonna test the pin 55 to the pcm and see what kinda voltage i get. only thing with this was like i mentioned even though that code was popping up before i tore everything down the engine was still running.

Thanks in advance for any replies.

EDIT added link to video. http://ow.ly/10u9KX can defiantly tell the noise is coming from under the valve cover that i had off where i had changed that sides timing guide.
also checked for voltage at pin 55 of the pcm wire connector and getting no voltage for the keep alive voltage. My repair manual doesn't show me the connection from the fuse box to that pin and i'm going off of what other people are saying this is diagrams for a 01 taurus/ sable *the 4 links in the answers* http://www.justanswer.com/ford/35jo2-does-ford-diagnostic-code-p1633-mean-repair-it.html I wish i knew what fuse this connector goes to and know 100% that i'm really checking the right spot on the connector

small update

I have gotten the tool kit to align the cams also gotten a borescope to be able to take a look at the pistons on the left side where the noise is coming from. I didn't see any marks on the pistons and when i hooked up the timing tool to the cam it lined up 100% perfect. I even stuck the borescope in cylinder 1 and make sure that sucker was on tdc. I really have no clue what the sound could be now and kinda at a loss.
