I have a stock 1998 XLT V8 AWD explorer now. I am getting a new car soon. Most of my driving is not off-roading. What are your opinions on the new IRS Explorers? NBX?
The new Explorers definately ride a lot smoother than the 2nd Gen. models do. I think the NBX model is cool but I think I'd just rather have an XLT Sport over the NBX. Since most of your driving isn't offroad then a new Explorer should suit you wonderfully.
But, I owned a 97 XLT AWD 5.0 and now onw a 2002 Limited 4.6L 4WD. Both of them have been very good to date, but the 2002 rides much smoother, and it is quieter. I'm not an off-roader, so I can't help you there.
The new X's are great if you want what they offer out of the box. And just give it a little time there will be more and more aftermarket for them very soon.
