well, I made it to exactly 180k on the money with no major trans issues until now.

Trans has always been flushed every 30k and filter done twice.

It is due for service now, but before I do so I'd like to see if it's all I need or if I need to change some parts while it's apart.

I have had a slight slip in second gear when trans is cold at low speed uphill, for the last month.

So, fast forward to last week, coming home, trans feels like it's got a 150-250 rpm slip with converter unlocked at 3/4+ throttle, can't say for sure but does seem like it in 4-5th gears.

When I take off from a stop, it slips and hesitates shifting from 1st to 2nd and it bangs hard shifting from 2nd to 3rd. More gas you give it the worse it is, this happened after stopping to get gas, left car run the whole time.

I parked it last week and haven't drove it since.

Not sure what to look at or what to replace, if someone could point me in the right direction I'd appreciate it. Thanks

Think that would be the 5R55W transmission. Need to check for code(s). Have any unusual indicator lights illuminated on the instrument panel?

".....it slips and hesitates shifting from 1st to 2nd....." Meaning of "slip"? Does engine speed increase as the shift is occurring? If engagement of 2nd. and 5th. gears is acting up, possible OD band slippage. imp

No 5th gear slip.

No codes or flashing lights or CEL.

When it shifts from first to second it takes almost 2 seconds (maybe longer) and yes the RPM's will raise a lot of you stay in the throttle.
Shifting from second to third is opposite, instant shift and it slams in gear, shifting to fourth and fifth is perfect.

Puzzling to me, no transmission guy, though. @JK080 can help here, if he sees this. Without code(s), I think IO would perform a pressure check. imp

The pump was whining on it two?? Or three years ago, around 120k miles, read the old TSB's and put a new filter in as it had the original still. It did quit whining unless below 15 degrees out and only did it til 130 ECT. I'm afraid I may have cavitated the pump already.

So I've changed the filter and fluid again at 150k and is due now, I'm lost on ford or any car trans, only thing I know my way around real well is 01-10 duramax trucks as that's all I've owned for work/DD and I've had to fix plenty on them.

That's the only bad thing (not really) about this explorer, I've always kept it maintained so I've never had to really do any work on it.
