My 2002 Explorer 4 dr is having a tire wear problem. The RF and RR tires wear on the outside edge of the tread. We had it back to the dealer 5 times already they aligned it twice still has same problem.

It originally went back to the dealer (under warranty) for a pull to the right they aligned it and it drives fine except for the tire wear. It has 10,000 miles on it now and has gone through 6 tires on the right side. All stock wheels and tires so no unusual combinations.

I am sure a good frame shop could fix it but want the dealer to correct the problem and replace the last three bad tires that are still on the vehicle. They took the new spare off the steel rim and put it on the front cast wheel one time we brought it in. I finally called Ford last week but still have yet to hear from the dealer.

Take it to an known reputible alignment shop and have them check the alingment and give you a print out of the readings. If it is out of alingment, take it back to Ford and demand they fix it right (and give you a print out of the final readings).

Be sure they are setting your running toe correctly. If i remember correctly your tires will have a tendency to pull away from each other during operation and it requires a slight adjustment because standing toe will be slighty more negative than running toe

Agreed, I am concerned with the inability of the dealer to do the alignment correctly.

I was wondering if anyone else has had problems or knows of a tech bulletin on this.

It only affects the passenger side tires both front and rear.

I would keep taking it in until they get it right. If they dont or cant, i would try and invoke the lemon law.

5 times for the same thing..... you are deffinately a candidate for the lemon law. 6 tires in 10k miles?!?!?!? that is hideous. that is beyond hideous. if its out that bad, there could be safety issues. i could align one by "eyeballing" it better than that.

take it to a reputable alignment shop and see what they say.

update:
I never heard back from the service department at the dealer. I finally called the salesman who sold the vehicle to us. He said Nooooo problem we'll get it fixed. I wanted a printout of the last alignment they did, a month ago, Hmmm can't seem to find it, has not showed up on my fax yet????

I asked about trading it for the same vehicle he had a 2003 there a twin to my 2002 around 8 grand and yours:mad: . Only 11,000 miles no way.
I guess it's time to get Ford involved again.
