2002 XLT
After looking through past posts, I have a few questions about the setup of the audio system in my 2002 XLT with 3rd row seat. I have the standard single disc CD player that comes with the package.

1. I saw a thread that said just to pry the top of the head unit out, and the rest is just a yank. Is this really the only way? Seems like I will just end up breaking it :) Do you need to remove any of the dash trim to do it?

2. Where is anyone putting a box? I really want it to be stealth (wifes car) , but can't find a box, and don't see anywhere that one would fit. Anyone know where ford actually puts it for their supreme Mach system? The problem is further compounded by that 3rd row seat, because I still want to have 7 passenger seating with a little bit of cargo room.

3. I assume the front speakers are still 5X7/6X8 right?

4. Do I need to worry about a factory external amp?

5. Any hidden issues that I am not aware of?

I want to put in either Infinity 5X7s or Boston 5X7s, a stealth box(undecided), a new head unit(undecided), and a neomp3 player. Anyone install a neo, and if so, where? They are cool, check out SSI's web site.

Thanks for any help!

1) I think you have to remove some trim, but have not done a 2002 myself yet.

2) The SW goes in place of the storage compartment in the rear quarter trim.

3) The front speakers are still 5.5"X7.5", and can usually take a typical aftermarket 6"X8" (NOT 6"X9")

4) There is no external amp in the factory system with the single CD Radio.

5) If you have redundant radio controls on the steering wheel, they will not function with an aftermarket radio.

Jeff,

2. The SW goes in place of the storage compartment in the rear quarter trim.

Are you talking about the approx 2 foot long slot on the right hand side in the rear? The old storage compartment where all the current stealth boxes fit is gone. Just wanted to confirm that they put it in the slot.

Do you know of anyone that makes an aftermarket sub to fit the new area? Is this something I could maybe find at a junkyard (assuming I am lucky), or is it a factory only option.

I sure wish I had looked at the dealer.

Thanks for all your help

so far i dont think any companys make an aftermarket stealth sub for the 2002.
