2002 Class II coverting to Class III

I currently own a 2002 ford explorer Eddie Bauer and have a factory 1 1/4" hitch reciever. I want to replace this with a factory 2" hitch reciever. Is there any issue with the bumer in the back of the explorer. It already has a notch cut out of the bumper due to the fact that the hitch is nice and tucked up behind the bumer. I've been told I need to cut the slot out larger to allow room for the 2" reciever. Any advice? Thanks.

you may have to cut it some.. it wouldn't be a big deal though i wouldn't think.
i don't understand why they put those lame 1 1/4" hitches on their. i can understand it for a small car and maybe the escape.. but not the big explorer.

I maybe mistaken, but i do beleive that the hitch is the bumper underneath the plastic. So you would have to swap out the entire thing. So I would think it is just a bolt on thing.
