Hi--my truck will noit start. I turn the key and I just hear a click. The truck has a new battery and its fully charged. I removed the altenator and had it bench tested. It's good. So I thought the problem was the starter. I took that off and installed the new one. Car will not start. The battery terminals are clean and the connections are tight. The wires look good going to the altenator and the fuse box. The headlights work and the radio works.

A friend of mine who was looking under the hood as I turned the key said that it appears that it wants to start, but nothing is turning. Can anybody offer me some suggestions?

I feel soo defeated right now. Thank you.

Did you try to manually turn the motor to make sure its not seized?

If you can turn it, and the start works... Well you get where I'm going with this.

Thinking back to last week when I tried to start the car, I did hear a snap sound under the hood. Could that be a timing chain??? Would a broken timing chain prevent the engine from cranking?

How do I turn the motor manually? Thank you.

....How do I turn the motor manually? Thank you.

By inserting a socket wrench into the "snout" on the front end of the crankshaft, center of the pulley/vibration damper.

The engine is seized. I removed the spark plugs and could not move the drive belt with my fingers. I then put a rachet on the crank shaft bolt and it wouldn't budge. I'm screwed. :(

What snapped??? There's oil in the engine. I change it frequently. The last time I changed it was around 6months ago. And I drove maybe 2800 miles.

If there is a silver lining it is this; I rarely drive the truck. Its mainly a vacation car. I walk to work. And the truck is back by my garage. Its not on the street so there is no urgency to move it. What is the most cost effective way to get a new engine? And the best way to shop around for labor? I want mechanics to bid against each other. Kind'of like Priceline.

Please give me your suggestions. Thank you.

it is the wire that runs to the starter. it runs under the oil pan near the oil filter, where it rubs and exposes the wire till it snaps. same thing will happen to the A/C clutch wires run in the same position. notorious with the 4.6 engine.
