The 2002 is my second Explorer. How do I remove the cowl? Also is there a better way to fix a broken fresh air door than going through the glove box?

The cowl is mostly snap on clips -- there is one screw between the two halves, right about in the middle. And remove the wipers.
I don't know of an easy way to fix the fresh air door, but it also depends on exactly what needs fixing. Is it the hydraulics, or plastic pieces that maybe broke. Some people wedge or screw it up into place and leave it that way, others leave it open. Personally, I don't think it's worth a lot of effort.

Thanks!! I could get the clips up but couldn’t figure out why it wouldn’t lift up. So thanks for the info. I get good AC but no change going to Max. It is a b**ch getting to the door so I’ll let it be as is. I’d probably get my arm stuck in there anyway. Ha! Have a great 4th.

I used a piece of 12/2 with ground household electrical wire and bent it into an L shape, and then slid it up to push the door closed. Then I used a small C-clamp to hold it in place. It took only a few minutes.
