Hello All,

I have read some great posts about replacing the power window assemble on my ford explorer but I want to make sure my power assembly is really shot before I replace it.

Here is what is happening.

The rear passenger window roles down just fine but will not go back up. There is no noise coming from the motor when I hit the up button on the window. Currently the window is stuck about 7 inches down and I have an piece of cardboard "securing" my car...

Also, is there any other wsy i can raise my window w/out the power window assemble?

Thanks
Eric

Welcome to this forum! I've moved your thread into the stock 2002-2005 section. Check the wiring between the door, and the frame of the vehicle. You could raise the window if you connect a booster pack onto the window motor.

Welcome aboard! :salute:

Could you please provide a little more detail. Have you tried the switch at the driver's door and the rear passenger door?

Could be a number of things:

1. Faulty Master Window Switch (driver's door)
2. Faulty Window Switch @ the door with the inoperable window
3. Broken/damaged wire in the boot between the body and the driver side rear door
4. Faulty window motor/regulator

I would check for broken/damaged wires first:

I had similar electrical issues with my 02 xlt. The dome lights would stay on until the battery saver feature turned them off, the accessory delay wasn't working, the driver side puddle light didn't work, the keypad on the door would set off the alarm when I pressed it, the door ajar light would flash and beep at highway speeds, the radio would shut off as soon as I turned the key off, the delayed accessories didn't work, etc. Most recently all 4 windows stopped working.

A lot of electrical issues can be traced back to broken/damaged wire(s) in the boot between the body and the driver's door. I found 2 broken wires and repaired them. The thin black ground wire was broken and after repairing it all was back to normal. When the windows stopped working, I repaired the thick black ground wire and the windows now work like a champ. Since only one windows doesn't work then the ground wire for the windows must be good.

Here is the thread for removing the door panel: http://www.explorerforum.com/forums//showthread.php?t=303524

Here is a great thread for checking for broken/damaged wires, thanks to synyster for this awesome write-up: http://www.explorerforum.com/forums//showthread.php?t=270081

Be sure to take your time when looking for broken/damaged wire(s). Check all the wires for breaks/damage. When you think you're done looking, look again, and again, and again. A bright flashlight can be very helpful.

Here is a great link for troubleshooting the power windows, thanks to theofam for this great link Dead Link Removed I have this in a pdf file and can send it to you upon request.

Here is a great thread for replacing the window regulator, thanks to Dr_Z for this great link http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=243401

I have sent you a PM with the diagrams for the power window system. These should help you to locate and fix the problem.

Hope this helps out! :D:thumbsup:

You guys are great! I really appreciate the help. I have the door panel removed and since the window would go down but not up I disconnected the connector that went from the switch on the rear passenger door and the motor. I ran an additional wire between them to reverse the connection (i.e the down button would hopefully make the window go up..) and it worked! I still need to figure out where the faulty wire is so i can both raise and lower the rear window but at least its not stuck half way down any longer!

To answer the additional questions.. I've tried both switches to raise and lower the window. The window only lowers when I use the switch on the rear passenger door. The drivers side masters switch does nothing to the rear passenger window.

Ill try to take the boots apart to look at the wires tomorrow and report back what I find...

It looks like it was a wire in the boot on the driver side door. I fixed the wire and the window now seems to work! Thank You guys very much!

Now on to other problems... Here is my current list
1) Door Ajar light stays on w/all doors shut. I'm guessing this is another wire broken issue.. I just do not know which door is giving the error

2) whining noise from belts when car is stopped or slowing at a stop. When i give the car gas the whining noise goes away.

3) Transmission light blinking at me. Took it to the shop which said that it may needed to rebuild the transmission. I decided to postpone the repair. I have another 40k miles on the car since that transmission visit. Light is still blinking but I'm still driving along... The only issue is when i need to brake hard it feels like the transmission dissengages for a couple seconds when I accelerate again. It typically happens when i need to brake harder then normal into a red light. When the light goes green the engine revs and then pops into gear...

Glad you were able to get the window working!

Here is some info on the door ajar issue:

Could be a broken/damaged wire or could also be related to the door ajar switch.

Here is a great thread for checking/replacing the door ajar switch, thanks to borland for the awesome write-up: http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=249253

That is a great write up.

On a side note, before going through a complete replacement of the switch, you can spray WD40 into the door latch opening on each door, as these become stuck sometimes....and this can alleviate the issue.

This worked for me, after going for more than a year of the "door ajar" light coming on occasionally...mainly after a car wash, high humidity, or rain....making me unable to lock/arm the vehicle from the door keypad and keeping the dome lights on. Worth a try....it worked for me

Hope this helps out!
