I just got a 2002 Mountaineer and had I known they had so many issues I would have passed on it, but too late now.

I have searched alot and still can't figure out what I need to do. It seems to not know what year it wants to be in at LIGHT throttle, feels like it sticks between 2nd 3rd and 3rd to 4th. I have some delay when going into gear, D or R. It shifts into OD HARD sometimes as well. NO codes being thrown.

So...valvebody? Solenoid?

Not all scanners are capable of reading these specific kind of codes. The 5R55W has known issues with the solenoid blocks failing around 60K miles. How many miles do you have? Did you check your fluid level? Did you ever replace your fluid & filter?

I have just over 82k miles. Tonight when I drove it I noticed a OD shutter it seems like as well. At WOT it goes great or 3/4 but 1/2 or less it is not good. I obviously can't go WOT all the time, haha.

Is there a way to check for a bad solenoid pack? Or is it trial and error?

Sometimes a code could lead to the solenoid block, but since it has 82K miles, it might be time to replace it. Flashing the PCM, and installing a new tune after is also recommended.

Have the dealer reflash it or a custom tune?

They could flash the PCM, and install a new tune which is specific for your vehicle. An SCT tuner could install a custom tune which is similar, but the dealer would have the updated specifications from Ford.

Ah, ok. I have a friend that works at a Lincoln/Mercury dealer maybe he can hook me up and do that. Should I try that 1st?

There is sticker under the hood that says a BG tranny flush was performed at 6x,x.. miles I noticed too. I hate how this tranny has no dipstick! Stupid design if you ask me. I'm lost on how you fill it or check it. I looked at all the pics and can't see how the fluid stays in the tranny by filling it through the drain? Is there a check valve of some sort in the plug?
