2002 Ranger Edge
My 2002 Ranger Edge does not want to come out of Park. When the engine is started, (or the key is fully in the "Run" position) it will not move out of Park. I did figure out that I could move the key one notch toward the Run position, (not all the way there though) and then I could move the shifter to Neutral, start and operate the truck. Any help on getting this fixed correctly would be appreciated.

There is a brake/shift interlock solenoid near the forward/lower end of the steering column. This solenoid prevents shifting out of park with the ignition on unless the brake is depressed .

Here's how I would proceed. First check fuses 9 and 10 in the dash box. Then make sure that the brake switch is working by checking that the brake lights work. Inspect the wiring to the interlock connector (gray/yellow, red/light green and black wires). If all else fails, try a new interlock solenoid.
